Unmatched Durability for Industrial Excellence
High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) thermal spray propels molten or semi-molten carbide and metal particles, like tungsten carbide or nickel alloys, onto a surface at supersonic speeds (up to 2,000 m/s). A fuel-oxygen mixture burns in a combustion chamber, creating a high-pressure gas jet that heats and accelerates the coating material. This forms dense, low-porosity coatings with exceptional wear resistance and corrosion protection, ideal for oilfield, and other industrial components. Longevity Coatings delivers durable, high-performance solutions.
In fact, the hardness, corrosion resistance, and overall wear resistance of these coatings are often superior to plasma coatings. In HVOF, the gases go through a converging diverging nozzle, with gas velocities reaching a velocity near 8000 fps. Which is particularly crucial when applying a tungsten carbide coating.
Common HVOF Coating Materials
- Tungsten Carbide (WC-Co, WC-Co-Cr)
- Why It’s Used: It is Ideal for high-wear environments, extending component life significantly.
- Chromium Carbide (Cr₃C₂-NiCr)
- Properties: High-temperature oxidation resistance (up to 1,600°F), excellent corrosion and wear resistance.
- Why It’s Used: Perfect for high-temperature, corrosive environments requiring durability. Particularly in hard chrome replacement.
- Nickel-Based Alloys
- Properties: Strong corrosion resistance, good bonding strength, moderate hardness.
- Why It’s Used: Provides a cost-effective solution for corrosion-prone environments.
- Cobalt-Based Alloys
- Properties: Excellent wear resistance, high toughness, and corrosion resistance.
- Why It’s Used: Balances toughness and durability for critical, high-stress components.
- Stainless Steels
- Properties: Strong corrosion resistance, moderate hardness, high toughness.
